Images of places and things most often found on outdoor adventures

there is a time & a place for everything

and that includes fear and self doubt

I may never get over those but am confident

that now I’m ready to tell

my story

it all started when…

a covert creative walks into an art gallery in Beaver Creek, CO and says to himself “hey, I want to learn how to do this”

buy a bunch of paint | build a 2x4 easel | lots of practice lots of failures a lot

invest a bunch of art books and dvds on painting | searching for “secrets” that don’t exist | this is really hard!!!

attend first “plein aire” painting workshop | DISASTER | instructor not very encouraging | did I say this was really hard? | dig deeper and keep learning

Lori gives me first DSLR camera | new format to learn | keep creating | interesting to see how much crossover there is in fundamentals | seeing progress!!

first large painting - we bought a fine art print but I decided to paint it instead | it is still over our bed

need to create something new | want to paint larger | buy more supplies and build my own counterweight easel | still use it today!!

attracting clients | gaining momentum | finally feeling growth where ambition approaches ability

pandemic hits | “day job” excessively demanding | creativity takes back seat to life | vicious loop: fatigue to no creativity to frustration to more fatigue

new venture | invest in video equipment | learning new format, yet again | gaining momentum back | developing interest in combining multiple visual formats

comfortable releasing full range of authentic visual media into world | rebrand web presence | time to tell my story and help others do the same!!

time to tell my story!

I’m based in central north carolina

but I’ll travel anywhere

especially for a good story

confessions of randomness

  • Led Zeppelin IV, U2 Joshua Tree, Bruce Springsteen Born To Run, Beastie Boys Licensed To Ill, Pearl Jam Ten

  • Random song lyrics, especially from my youth

  • Anytime O.A.R. is playing

  • Toss up: photo tour to capture northern lights or see a favorite band at Red Rocks

  • Finding my wife in the middle of a major stroke (that she has thankfully fully recovered from)

  • First I ever saw in theater: ET

    Favorite: Shawshank Redemption

  • Pat Conroy, hands down

  • The menu would only include smoked brisket and pork, mac & cheese, and carrot cake (all house specialties)

  • Almost literally ran into Robin Thicke at LAX airport - I didn’t even know it was him at first

  • Colorado fall yellow aspen trees, Yellowstone Upper Falls, Southern California coastline sunset, Ireland Cliffs of Moher, Germany Heidelberg Castle at night, Grand Canyon/Sedona

  • Nearly anything - but to point out a variety of genres, here are artists I’d listen to anything from : Gregory Alan Isakov, OAR, Led Zeppelin, Angles & Airwaves, Chris Stapleton, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, Dave Matthews, heck, even add in Adele

  • Love a good bourbon (and am willing to barter for it!)

  • Anything with the caveat I realized I’m not a very good athlete long ago - I wish I was a better golfer

  • Cal Ripken, Jr.

  • Was on a plane with my wife and newborn son en route to San Antonio at the exact moment of the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks - we were forced to divert to Houston where we were met with utter chaos

  • Rode olympic bobsled in Park City, UT
